PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
We, the parishioners of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Roman Catholic Church, are a Eucharistic community of faith.   We are a pilgrim people, under the patronage of our Blessed Mother Mary.   As His apostles, we welcome all in Jesus Christ, share the good news of salvation, worship together and serve God’s people.   Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we strive to help one another become all that God wants us to be.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT

March 9, 2008

"Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD; LORD, hear my voice!" – – Psalm 130:1

PENANCE SERVICE

Our Parish Lenten Penance Service, Monday, March 10th at 7:00 PM --- with 8 priests in attendance, Monsignor is hoping that a large number of our people take advantage of this opportunity.   We start with a brief service and are available for confessions, as long as there are penitents.

HOLY WEEK
Next Sunday is Palm Sunday -   Palms will be distributed at all Masses --- regular Mass times.

The Sacred Triduum - Holy Week 2008!   Please join us for Holy Week at Notre Dame Church.

Holy Thursday, March 20 - 7:00 PM -   We will celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper and last year's 1st Communion class has the honor of participating in the procession, wearing their Communion outfits.   The Eucharistic Ministers will also sit together in Church as a group (call rectory to reserve a seat, please). &3160; We will adore the Blessed Sacrament at the Repository in Church Hall until 11:00 PM Night Prayer.

Good Friday, March 21 - 3:00 PM -   Please bring your children to our special Good Friday Children's Liturgy of the Word celebration (held in the Church Hall), featuring the use of special props and costumes for the presentation of the Passion.   (Parents:   Please respect the holiness of Good Friday!   It is NOT a day for sports practices, movies, shopping, etc.   Let's teach our kids to keep holy the day on which Jesus died for us!)   Please join us at 3:00 PM!   (Remember:   a day of fast / abstinence - 1 full meal, 2 smaller meals, and NO MEAT!)

Easter Vigil, March 22 - 8:00 PM -   Join us for the Great Liturgy of Easter as we receive our RCIA candidates into Full Communion with the Catholic Church:   We promise a beautiful and meaningful liturgy --- in a reasonable amount of time.   (Monsignor promises!)   He would love to increase attendance at this liturgy.   The choir has prepared a beautiful liturgy, indeed!

Easter Sunday Masses:   7:30, 9:00, 10:30, 12:00 noon

PS - Extra 9:00 & 10:30 AM Easter Sunday Masses in the Church Hall (as needed).   Yes, everybody wants Mass on Easter!   We ask the ushers to practice "sardine sitting arrangements" to get the most of our Church.   Of course, come early and you have your choice of seats at every Mass.

Please do not save seats!   Monsignor asks all members to refrain from saving multiple seats for family members.   The early parishioner gets the seat!   (PS - & move in . . . and smile!)

LIVING STATIONS OF THE CROSS

The 8th grade students of Notre Dame of Bethlehem School will present the Living Stations of the Cross for the parishioners of Notre Dame on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:00 PM in the Church.   They will also re-enact the Living Stations on March 12 at 4:30 PM for PREP students and on Tuesday, March 18 for the school students.   This is a perfect way for us, as a faith community, to continue on our Lenten spiritual journey that will lead us to one of the holiest of days in the Church year - Easter Sunday.

55+ CLUB IRISH

Irish Eyes will be smiling when 55+ Club members and friends meet on Thursday, March 13th for a "Sing-A-Long" of Irish Songs with Bernie Mulligan (and Monsignor and Fr. As always, books are available for a nominal fee ($0.25) and our 50/50 drawing and membership drawing will be held.   You must be present to win and dues paid must be current.

YOUTH GROUP

Thank You!   The Youth Group would like to thank the many parishioners who supported our recent retreat through prayer, food, supplies, and monetary donations to help defray the cost.   The youth are truly appreciative of their Notre Dame family.   Please know you were remembered in prayer during our snowy retreat.   God Bless!

NOTRE DAME SCHOOL

The 101+ Reasons to Send Your Child / GrandChild to Notre Dame School
Building Faith, Minds and Spirit

Reason #6:   Saints ~ St. Patrick ~ St. Nicholas ~ St. Valentine

To our children, these names are not just holidays, but celebrations of the men and women who were strong in their beliefs and showed their loyalty to God through their love of both God and their fellow man.   Our Children are encouraged to find role models in these courageous people and not the superficial athletes and pop stars that exist in our society today.

Always accepting new students!   Call us for an appointment to see our school, 610-866-2231.

St. ANNE'S SCHOOL

St. Anne's School Spring Shopping Spectacular - 35 of your favorite vendors, bake sale, flower tent, raffles and more!   Join us on April 27th from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM at St. Anne's, 375 Hickory Street in Bethlehem.

TAX PREPARATION

Free Tax Preparation Assistance - Junior and Senior accounting students from DeSales University will provide tax preparation assistance free of charge to senior citizens and those with lower incomes now through Friday, March 28.  Students are required to pass a test given by the IRS in order to receive certification to participate in the program.   Call 610-282-1100 ext. 1868.   A DeSales student will return your call and provide assistance accordingly.

WOMEN OF GRACE

Women, find your purpose and feed your soul!   Due to popular demand, Notre Dame is again offering the Women of Grace Catholic study series.   Based on Johnette Benkovic's book, Full of Grace, this series will begin on Monday evenings from March 31 thru May 19, 6:30 to 8:00 PM.   Please call the rectory to reserve your place, by March 17th, so we can order materials for all participants.

St. Vincent de Paul Society helped many needy families with heating bills, so our resources are LOW!   We would greatly appreciate any donations.   Keep in mind the nonperishable donation bins - as well as the envelopes for donations conveniently located by all Church entrances.   Thanks you!

Thank you, Sponsors!   The Dona Cori Gibson concert was fantastic!   Special thanks to Rosemary Zambo for coordinating the entire event.   We appreciate the following sponsors who helped make it possible by their financial support: Dr. & Mrs. Howard Bookbinder, Mr. & Mrs. David Meuthing, Mr. & Mrs. Paul Zambo, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Henry, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Hilton, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Maziarz, Mr. & Mrs. Timothy Ripper, Mr. & Mrs. Lou Rogacs, Notre Dame Youth Group, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Grasso, and Mr. & Mrs. David Sweeney.   (Yes- we need to do more events like this!)
